If you have not already heard, a significant change to the 34-Hour Restart rule came through in mid December. The message below was posted in AtlasNet bulletins in December and on the Atlas Loop.
Effective immediately, the restart provisions that went into effect on July 1, 2013 have been temporarily suspended. The newly signed law suspends the requirements for all qualifying restarts to include two consecutive periods of time between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., and that it can only be used once every 168 hours (seven days).
In other words, the restart rule reverts back to the 34-hour restart rule that was in effect from 2003 to June 2013. Drivers will now be permitted to restart their 70 hours by taking at least 34 consecutive hours off-duty and the restart can be utilized more than one time per week, if necessary.
