Recap of 2020 Regional PVO Meetings


While this year has added its own set of challenges, it’s important to stay on top of all the usual aspects of the job that are crucial to the success and safety of all Professional Van Operators. A few of these aspects have been covered in PVO meetings and are highlighted below as a reminder.

  • Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) 2019 International Roadcheck Results
    • The top three driver violations were hours of service (37.2%), wrong class license (22.5%), and false logs (14.7%).
    • The top three vehicle violations were braking systems (28%), tires and wheels (19.3%), and brake adjustments (17.1%).
    • The next International Roadcheck is scheduled for September 9-11, 2020 and will focus on driver requirements.
  • ELD Updates
    • No more AOBRD
    • Note malfunctions on a paper log
    • Know how to use Personal Conveyance
    • Change status before turning off your truck, and log out when leaving truck
    • For Rand McNally users: Don’t use a kill switch as a way to log out
  • Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
    • Effective as of January 6, 2020
    • Applies to new and current CDL license holders operating under FMCSA guidelines
    • Carriers and new applicants must register (free)
    • Violations will remain on record for 5 years or until the violation is resolved (SAP, RTD and follow-up)
    • All positive drug and alcohol tests, test refusals, violations, and documents will be reported to the Clearinghouse
  • Fuel Receipts
    • Make sure to include the following:
      • Agent code
      • PVO code
      • Circle the date, state and unit number or add the unit number
  • Accident Reporting
    • An accident involving a fatality or results in a citation to the van operator will be considered late if it is not reported within four hours of the accident
    • All other accidents are considered late if not reported by 5 P.M. Central time the next business day
